Chapter 19
After Billy and Sam returned home, life began to return to normal. Mr. Billings helped Sam with the James McDonald Foundation, and the legal issues that arose. Eventually, a board of directors was established, with Sam as the Chairperson of the Board. They immediately began to help people with the funds.
After Sam graduated from college, she and Billy got married. She had wanted a simple wedding, but the Wilkerson family threw them a big fancy wedding with money that they had received from Jim McDonald before he died. Jim had realized that Sam would not spend any money on herself, so he paid for the entire thing himself.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilkerson walked her down the aisle. Vicky was her Maid of Honor, and Billy’s brother was the best man. All of the rest of the Wilkerson children were groomsmen and bridesmaids.
Sam’s family was not in attendance, because Sam did not invite them.
Another surprise awaited Sam and Billy. Jim McDonald had also arranged for them to take a month long trip around the world for their honeymoon.
When they returned to West Virginia, Sam began teaching the 4th grade at one of Fairmont’s elementary schools, and Billy began operating one of the largest commercial farms in the state.
Sam was indeed the richest woman in the world, and she owed it all to her great-grandfather; James Samuel McDonald.
